It’s in the eyes

July 13th, 2011
Eyes
Most women, at some point in their lives, find themselves waking up every day to look at themselves in the mirror, noticing more and more lines around their eyes, and think, “I’m not as young as I used to be.” The aging process begins around the eyes and that’s why we start to notice the signs of aging around the eyes first.
The usual first reaction is to run to the drug store and buy hundreds of dollars’ worth of creams, serums and cosmetics to cover these signs of aging. For most women frustration will lead to anger as these products do not produce the desired result. Most of these products are designed to prevent the signs of aging, and keep the skin young before the damage happens. Once wrinkles have set in, cosmetics often settle in the lines making them more noticeable, opposite of the desired effect.
For those who already have unwanted facial lines and wrinkles, minimal invasive and non-surgical solutions have been made relatively inexpensive by increased popularity in recent years. For a nominal price, you can take five to eight years off your appearance, while saving hundreds of dollars on useless products from the cosmetics counter, with board certified plastic surgeons like Dr. Alfred Sofer.
Dr. Sofer employs various techniques to help you recapture your youth. Helping you choose the right procedure to achieve the best results is important. Some of the options available at Dr. Sofer’s office are:
Botox/Dysport: a non-invasive procedure that requires only a few small injections for temporary results, smoothing out crow?s feet and laugh lines for women ages 18 – 65. Approved by the FDA, Botox can also be used preventatively, at the first signs of wrinkles, to stop deeper set lines from forming.
Total FX CO2 fractional laser skin resurfacing: a skin resurfacing treatment considered among the latest cutting edge technologies in cosmetic surgery available today. Regarded in the field as the most effective laser resurfacing, it is proven to show signs of significant improvement in sun damage, age spots, fine lines, deep lines, scars and tightness of the whole face with just one treatment.
Blapharoplasty: a procedure in which excess tissues, such as skin and fat, are removed from the eyelid, or repositioned and surrounding tendons and muscles may also be reinforced. For some people this surgery is functional if their vision is impaired by drooping eyelids. This procedure is generally performed under a local anesthesia, in the doctor’s office, and in completed in 1-3 hours. Recovery time is expected to be 5-7 days.
Stop wasting time and consult with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon on the right options for you. Dr. Sofer’s office is available for consultation to help you find the right path to rejuvenation and wake up to a younger you in the mirror.

    Breast Implants: Saline vs. Silicone

If you are thinking about getting breast augmentation surgery, then you should know a bit about the different kinds of implants that are available.

In 2006, the FDA approved silicone as a safe, gel material for breast implants. Saline implants have a similar shell to the silicone implants, but they are filled with a salt-water solution. Both implants work well, but they have different textures. To learn more about the types of results you can expect with both implants, watch this short video.

Facial Rejuvenation

January 4th, 2011

Facial Surgery for facial rejuvenation has changed greatly over the last past 10 years. With advancements in facial surgery, which include face lifts, eye lid surgery, brow lift and ear pinning, there is now an array of non-surgical procedures to turn the clock back even more. With new techniques in Botox and facial filler injections, and lasers for skin resurfacing, surgical and non-surgical facial rejuvenation is now the choice many men and women are considering. At the Plastic Surgery Center of Fairfield, Dr. Alfred Sofer’s facial surgery for facial rejuvenation methods include:

  • Varieties of major permanent and long-term plastic surgery
  • less invasive mid-range surgical procedures
  • non-surgical injections and laser skin resurfacing treatments.

Signs of aging may be more visible on the face than any other area of the body. Dr. Alfred Sofer’s facial rejuvenation technique uses a variety of treatments to combat a variety of forces at work in an aging face.

Here are some of the factors that may accelerate facial aging:

  • Exposure to sun, wind, excessive heat and cold.
  • Chemical and biological pollution.
  • Hormonal changes, depleted collagen production, thinning of the skin due to free radical damage, facial bone changes, and slacked facial ligaments.
  • Improper daily habits in terms of skin care, diet, exercise, and cigarette smoking.
  • Medical conditions including skin disorders, acne, and chicken pox, which may produce scarring.
  • Miscellaneous physiological functions can produce freckling pigmentation spots, dry spots, broken capillaries, and hyper pigmentation from hormonal changes (which may be induced by pregnancy or birth control medications).
  • Genetics.

Facial rejuvenation can mean different things to different people. There are non-invasive and minimally invasive treatments and procedures used to improve slight facial imperfections. There are plastic surgery procedures that can dramatically improve the appearance of the face.  Dr. Sofer finds the most successful approach may be a combination of procedures and treatments for a comprehensive facial rejuvenation strategy.
